The building of Caldwell High School's
Cougar Mascot, Caldwell, ID

Mr. Ivak Cooper and his Metal Welding Classes under the direction of sculptor,
Bernie Jestrabek-Hart (see her web site at www.sculptures-by-bjh.com )
have been building a cougar, the school's mascot.  He and
all of the students in all of his classes have worked on this
piece at least once.  Several of the students have
worked on it a lot of hours.

This will be mounted on a metal "rock" which will make the|
cougar a bit above our eye in height.  The projected
completion date for the cougar is June 11 and of
the rock by the first of September.

The beginning of the making of this sculpture starts at the bottom
of this page and progresses to the where we are at this time.
Therefore, the top is the latest to date.

Week Five   -   May 24 thru 28, 2010

May 26

We are putting the "life" in it by putting the movement in the
position that is will be in.  I am finally like the head!

May 25
Wonderful texture on the tail.  When cougar is complete
it will be textured similar all over the body.

May 24

\
Still working on the head but it is really close!  We were also working all over
the body welding all the cuts and making sure everything is in proportion.

Week Four   -   May 17 thru 21, 2010

May 21

Still trying to get the head the correct size.

May 20

It is beginning to look like a cougar.  The head is still too small!

ay 18

The 5th try seems to be a cougar!..!  Well ... sort of.
Too bad it is too small.

May 17

While students worked on the body Bernie tried to work |
on the head.  She had a real time trying to "see" the head.
She first came up with a Pit Bull or Dalmatian dog head.
After 4 different heads ...

 Week Three   -   May 10 thru 14, 2010

May 14

Working at getting the head correct.  What a task!
It is easy to see it is not right.  It is hard to figure out
what will make it correct.

May 11

What a funny dog? head?

May 10

What a funny head.  Also still working on the body.

Week Two   -   May 3 thru 7, 2010

Here we were beating out the back from the inside.

May 3

The first actual week started with shaping the body and also still working one the head.

DAY ONE April 30, 2010

On Day one we started with the head and had a lesson on how to shape items.  We ordered the material needed to make the body.
